PREPARATION FOR MINOR HOCKEY COMPETITIVE “A” SELECTION CAMP
This camp is a short three-day camp to prepare players for the competitive level selection process of the local minor hockey association. The three on-ice sessions will be held during the week prior to the selection camp weekend in October. Battle drills, conditioning drills, and basic skills will be at the forefront during this camp. All exercises will be to facilitate a competitive mentality just in time for the “big” weekend. Tips for the right attitude to optimize performance during this stressful week will also be provided.
For this level, we will spend some time on bodychecking techniques on how to give a hit and take a hit. For some minor-year players, this will be their first year playing the game with contact and can cause apprehension. Proper technique will render this transition easier for the athletes.
Our goalie coach, Tommy Alain, will be on the ice for some sessions but not all of them. There will be no goalie instruction when he’s not the ice.
THE ON ICE FOCUS OF THIS CAMP IS:
- Conditioning drills
- Battle drills
- Professional instruction
- Bodychecking Technique
- Puck handling
- Shooting and passing with a purpose
- Small area games
