PLHHP adds Drew Toner as a high-level client

GRAND-FALLS, NB, September 20th, 2022 – Paul Leclerc High-Performance Hockey announces a collaboration with its first USports athlete.

Starting this season, Drew Toner, originally from Grand Falls and now playing for the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks of the Ontario University Athletics League, will be working with Coach Paul. For those unfamiliar with the OUA League, it is the Ontario equivalent to the AUS (Atlantic University Sports), where the UNB Reds and Aigles Bleus de Moncton are playing. Drew, being in Oshawa, and Paul in Grand Falls, the coaching is done remotely by video review. Paul is excited to work with a high-level athlete like Drew: “With the pandemic regulations last year, a friend approached me to help his son remotely. He would provide me with video footage of his son’s games, and we would meet by zoom to review the different play decisions, positioning, etc. This led to me working with four other athletes during the winter, and the feedback was very positive for each of them. Parents were able to see improvement in their son’s play fairly quickly.”

After last year’s experience, there was no doubt in Paul’s mind that this service would be back, but he wanted to build on it and improve it so he could use it at a higher level. “After studying Darryl Belfry’s technique during the summer (NHL skills coach), I approached Drew and presented Darryl’s technique, my opinion of his game, and where I could help him reach his full potential. In short, Darryl Belfry looks at every puck touches and determines if the player improves, degrades, or doesn’t change the quality of the puck.” After their initial meeting, it didn’t take long for Drew to see the potential in this relationship: “Paul’s dedicated many hours over the last few years to learning, enhancing, and growing his hockey knowledge. I’ve seen his dedication firsthand through our collaboration with “Next Level” and by working one-on-one with him to analyze the analytics of my game at the Junior A, NCAA, and USports levels. I enjoy having the opportunity to collaborate with Paul to improve my game. Players need to take full advantage of programs like the Next Level and Paul’s High-Performance Coaching to grow their skills in all aspects of the game.” A few other players in the region will be taking advantage of this high-level program to hopefully reach the next level of their careers. Stay tuned, as these collaborations will be announced later in the month.

Things are looking up for Drew, who played the first two games of his OUA career this past weekend. His Ridgebacks faced the TMU Bold and the Nipissing Lakers in exhibition play as he was able to score his first USports goal in his second career game.
