FIRST TIME BEHIND A HOCKEY BENCH
It’s in September of 2008 where my coaching journey all began…
FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP
I joined the Grand Falls Cataracts (senior hockey team) coaching staff for the 2011-2012 season. Year in which we won the league championship. During my second and final year behind the Cats’ bench, I was promoted to head coach. We ended up losing game 7 in overtime…tough to swallow but so important in the learning process. It’s all about the process!
TAKING OVER THE PTA PROGRAM
It’s in September of 2018 where I stepped behind the bench of our local high school hockey team. This stint ended up lasting 3 years. During these 3 years we were able to gather 15 non-parent passionate volunteers, put in place an alumni association and re-establish a winning culture. The initial year was difficult but crucial to my journey in coaching. It’s this first year that gave me the urge for to educate myself and go for my HP1 Hockey Canada certificate (July, 2019).
UBC
It’s during April of 2021 that I was accepted in the “Graduate Certificate for High Performance Coaching and Leadership” program from the University of British Columbia. This program has had a huge impact on my coaching journey and made the PLHPHC a possibility.
THE MOMENT WE WERE BORN
Like many new projects, Paul Leclerc High Performance Hockey Coaching came to life secondary to unfortunate events. It all started with COVID restrictions and a text message from a friend asking me to help his son via individual video analysis. One thing led to another, and I ended up coaching four other players via video. Once the COVID restrictions were lifted, I was able to return on the ice and gear my coaching towards individual skills and tactics.
