The physical aspect of a hockey player is crucial. Physical fitness measures and anthropometric data are valuable in helping predict hockey playing potential. We created testing benchmarks using data from the 95th percentile of multiple sources in the literature. We test the aerobic capacity, lower body power and explosiveness, upper body strength and endurance, general strength, acceleration, quickness, and agility. We do not only test our athletes but we also give them the tools to build strength and improve all fitness components relative to hockey.
With a heavy competition schedule, during the season, the goal during the winter is to maintain physical conditioning. It is during the off-season that the athlete must train intensely to gain strength, aerobic/anaerobic capacity, and power. Every athlete (from U15 and above) sees a physiotherapist at the end of the competitive macrocycle to identify partially healed injuries or functional imbalances. These will be the first things addressed at the start of the off-season.
